"A tiny development. With gigantic potential."1 That's one way to describe the brand-new Chevrolet Spark EV. Here are a few more: fuel efficient, functional, futuristic, fashionable and fun. Getting the picture? Chevrolet has been promoting EV conversation for a while and now it's time to put all that talk into walk?.or, perhaps we should say, into drive.
We can't give you the full picture right now as the new electric Spark Mini Car is only just sliding into production. However, with a release date as soon as 2013 and development well on its way, Southworth Chevrolet is happy to share some details with Chevy fans in the Bloomer area.
Moving past a sleek exterior, Spark drivers will slip inside and find an unexpected motorcycle-inspired instrument panel. Designed and marketed as the ideal EV for city-dwellers and urban travelers, the new Chevrolet Spark will run off a nanophosphate lithium-ion battery provided by A123 Systems. This nanophosphate technology bolsters efficiency by decreasing charge time and increasing the amount of usable energy the battery offers. In addition to the Spark EV, Chevrolet will also begin development on the next EN-V concept model.
"Our global demo fleets continue to provide insight into the needs of electric vehicle customers living in urban environments," Chief Engineer for Electric Vehicles Jim Federico said. "The Spark EV is another step in Chevrolet's plan to provide customers with a variety of electrification solutions to address the lifestyle and transportation needs of people around the world."2 Federico also mentioned that the Spark EV provides a compliment to such existing vehicles as the Chevrolet Volt EV and the Chevrolet Malibu Eco.
